Mills Goodloe began his career at Warner Bros., working under director Richard Donner, whose credits include Superman, The Omen, Scrooged, and the Lethal Weapon series. From 1992 to 1995, Goodloe served as an assistant to Donner on Lethal Weapon 3 and Maverick. In 1996, Goodloe was named President of Richard Donner Productions. Over the next four years, he produced Assassins, starring Sylvester Stallone and Julianne Moore; Conspiracy Theory, starring Mel Gibson and Julia Roberts; and the final installment of the Lethal Weapon series, starring Mel Gibson, Rene Russo, Danny Glover, and Chris Rock.

In 2001, Goodloe left Donner Productions to write and direct A Gentleman’s Game, starring Gary Sinise, Dylan Baker, and Philip Baker Hall. The film was nominated for an ESPY Award for Best Sports Film. Goodloe subsequently adapted two John Grisham novels: Bleachers for Revolution Studios and Playing for Pizza for Phoenix Pictures. In 2012, Goodloe wrote the screenplay for the sports biopic Pride, released theatrically by Lionsgate, starring Terrence Howard and Bernie Mac. Two years later, Warner Bros. distributed his adaptation of Nicholas Sparks’ best-selling novel The Best of Me, starring Michelle Monaghan and James Marsden.

Goodloe’s original screenplay The Age of Adaline, starring Blake Lively and Harrison Ford, was distributed by Lionsgate in 2015 to critical and financial success. In 2017, Warner Bros. released his adaptation of the New York Times best-selling novel Everything, Everything, starring Amandla Stenberg and Nick Robinson. In 2019, Twentieth Century Fox released The Mountain Between Us, directed by Academy Award nominee Hany Abu-Assad and starring Kate Winslet and Idris Elba. In 2020, Goodloe penned the screenplay To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, which became Netflix’s most-viewed young adult title. In 2021, he partnered with Amazon Studios to write and produce a reimagining of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby. In 2023, Goodloe directed and produced the film Blue Eyed Girl, starring Beau Bridges and Marisa Coughlan, set to be released in November 2025.

Goodloe is currently collaborating with Blake Lively on a television adaptation of The Age of Adaline, and is writing the musical biopic Bullseye Hallelujah, starring Kevin James, Jelly Roll, and Katharine McPhee, set to begin production in the Spring of 2026.
